FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
What is the difference between Gyro Stabilization and Electronic Stabilization?
Gyro Stabilization is based on the principle of conservation of angular momentum. The gyro consists of a motor and a flywheel which, when spinning at full speed, resists changes to its orientation due to the angular momentum of the flywheel. So, as the unit shakes in one direction, the gyro moves in the opposite direction.
Electronic Stabilization works by comparing one frame of video to the next frame, detecting any undesired motion and then compensating. The process starts by having an image projected onto the camera's sensor. Software then compares the previously recorded frame to the current frame. The software will then search for pixel matches between the two frames. If the frames match is not centered, the software recognizes this as motion and determines how to move the frame to compensate.
What are the advantages of Gyro Stabilization?
Gyro stabilization stabilizes the image by manipulating a prism giving you the pure image while electronic stabilization performs digital corrections on the image. The digital corrections will not give you real time viewing. The image will always be delayed by a few frames. Also, the digital corrections will cause some degradation of the image.
